The YMCA-CHOK International Bridge Race in support of Strong Kids is the YMCA's largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds to provide YMCA opportunities for children, youth and families who otherwise could not afford the cost of participation.

The YMCA-CHOK Bridge Race is an international event that has runners starting in the United States, crossing the Bluewater Bridge and finishing in Canada, providing runners with the unique opportunity to enjoy both countries. Each year, hundreds of participants of all ages and from all walks of life unite to participate in the Run.

YMCA Leadership Challenge Centre prepares for spring opening with launch of new website

Sarnia, ON – What was once a schoolyard has now been transformed into an outdoor challenge centre designed to foster leadership and communication skills in participants. Located at the YMCA Learning and Career Centre, 660 Oakdale Avenue in Sarnia, construction on the new YMCA Leadership Challenge Centre is now complete.

“We are excited to see our vision for creating a state-of-the-art leadership centre come to fruition,” explains YMCA CEO Jim Janzen. “This centre will provide youth, community and corporate groups the opportunity to stretch outside of their comfort zones, working together as a team to overcome challenges. It is through this experience they will improve their communication skills, increase their self-confidence and leave with a greater sense of accomplishment.”

Scheduled to open in May 2012, the YMCA Leadership Challenge Centre will provide innovative programming for groups of all ages and abilities. The outdoor space includes high and low ropes courses as well as a climbing tower. Indoors, participants can tackle a bouldering wall or take part in other challenge activities.

“The YMCA has also launched a new website, www.yleadershipchallenge.com which provides the community with an overview of the Leadership Challenge Centre and opportunities for group programming,” says Janzen. “This website allows individuals to learn more about the YMCA Leadership Challenge Centre and how it can improve the dynamics not only of the group but also improve the self-esteem of participants.”
